Weyerbacher – Rhumpshaka Review

RhumpshakaAll You Need to Know

Brewery: Weyerbacher
Style: Belgian Ale? (Rum Barrel-Aged)
ABV: 11.8%
Cost: $15 (22 oz)
Glassware: Belgian Snifter
Serving Temp: 55°
Availability: Limited (Brewed Once)
Purchased@: Weyerbacher Visitor Center

Quick Take: Really impressive beer that is wonderfully blended and benefits from a high ABV without becoming a rum-boozed mess. I think this could pleasantly surprise the ABV chasers and craft beer snobs if they are given the chance to try it. Make no mistake, this is a rum forward beer and the tropical/coconut qualities dominate the base beer elements. That said, it’s a fine example of a barrel-aged beer with a nice emphasis on the rum.

Beer Fact of the Day! – Skunked Beer

anti bottlesIf your beer tastes or smells like it was filtered through a skunk’s butt, it is probably due to the beer being “skunked” or named Heineken or Rolling Rock (zing!).  Almost nothing makes for a worse beer experience than getting a mouthful of rancid beer water when you were hoping for hoppy deliciousness. DC Brau – On the Wings of Armageddon Review

WingsAll You Need to Know

Brewery: DC Brau Brewing
Style: Imperial IPA/ DIPA
ABV: 9.2%
Cost: $7 (10 oz)
Glassware: Snifter, Tulip
Serving Temp: 55°
Availability: Quarterly Release
Purchased@: Bulls Head Pub

Quick Take: This is a great IPA and one worth trying when encountered in the wild, but any comparisons to Heady Topper, which I have heard on a few occasions, should really be kicked aside. Wings isn’t rewriting the book on DIPAs, but damn if it’s not a delicious IPA that I will welcome into my mouth any time. I look forward to slamming this in the future whenever I see it, but I wouldn’t go to extraordinary lengths to get it.

Episode 9 – Stone – Grapefruit Slam IPA – 2nd Opinion

This is a follow up to the previous episode and features my fellow beer hunter, Chris. Two opinions are better than one, so here is another take on the same beer. This isn’t meant as a full-fledged review but as a way to feature a different palate than mine and give you a fullerer (new word!) perspective on the beer.
