DBRcast – Ep3 – Hefeweizen Showdown

DBRcast Logo 5We blind beer taste 13 Hefeweizens and Wits, yes f’in 13, to see which one reigns supreme. Equipment (i.e. user) malfunction cut off the tasting portion, so we just have the results. Seems to work better this way and probably how we’ll handle it going forward.

So listen up as we get competitive to see who brought the best/worst Hefeweizens of the showdown! We also inadvertently include a duplicate, which makes for interesting results. Once we crown the hefe beer champ, we also factor in the cost to determine the best beer for your buck. For a list of everything we drank, we refer to them by name and number, see the full post below.

Capone’s Black Friday Tap List 2015

CaponesAnother Black Friday, another stop in at Capone’s Restaurant in Norristown to catch our collective breath during the Bourbon County madness. It’s cramped, uncomfortable, and packed with near standing room only nerds with the beer sweats. Wouldn’t have it any other way…

So, what does this purveyor of beer have for the fermentation obsessed this year? The break down’s below. It may not be quite the jimmy rustler of past years, but any excuse to warm the old liver by the ABV fire is a good one.

I’ve highlighted some I’ve got my sights on, a few favs but mostly my have nots. Those that don’t want to brave the beer sweaty masses will most likely find this tap list near complete (sans Cantillon) on Saturday, so plan accordingly.

DBRcast – Ep2 – The Pizza Boy Controversy

DBRcast Logo 5We take a break from blind beer drinking to do a straight review of iNTaNGiBLes’s Acidulated Hive, followed by a discussion on inflated beer prices and a controversial Facebook post concerning Al of Hampden defending the price of Pizza Boy’s sours. Don’t bother looking for it, the Facebook post mysteriously vanished the next day…

We finish by sipping on Revolution Brewing’s Bene Gene, a coffee and bourbon barrel-aged take on their Eugene porter. It took us six months to finally drink it, so was it worth the wait?

A Visit to Forest & Main Brewery

IMG_2066My partner in beer got it in his head that a brewery trip was in order. When the calling comes, and it comes for all of us (sometimes a few times a week), it can’t be denied.   It also so happened that my ever so kindly wife gave me a weekend on my own to do as I will. Her canonization to sainthood should be coming through any day now.

This expedition would take us an hour and a half from the horse-powered breweries of Lancaster to the quaint Forest & Main Brewery, nestled between the residential and retail buildings on Main Street of Ambler, PA.
