DC Brau – On the Wings of Armageddon Review

WingsAll You Need to Know

Brewery: DC Brau Brewing
Style: Imperial IPA/ DIPA
ABV: 9.2%
Cost: $7 (10 oz)
Glassware: Snifter, Tulip
Serving Temp: 55°
Availability: Quarterly Release
Purchased@: Bulls Head Pub

Quick Take: This is a great IPA and one worth trying when encountered in the wild, but any comparisons to Heady Topper, which I have heard on a few occasions, should really be kicked aside. Wings isn’t rewriting the book on DIPAs, but damn if it’s not a delicious IPA that I will welcome into my mouth any time. I look forward to slamming this in the future whenever I see it, but I wouldn’t go to extraordinary lengths to get it.

Episode 9 – Stone – Grapefruit Slam IPA – 2nd Opinion

This is a follow up to the previous episode and features my fellow beer hunter, Chris. Two opinions are better than one, so here is another take on the same beer. This isn’t meant as a full-fledged review but as a way to feature a different palate than mine and give you a fullerer (new word!) perspective on the beer.

Parkway Brewery – Get Bent IPA Review

Brewery:  Parkway Brewing
Style: IPA
ABV: 7.2%
Cost: $1.86 (12 oz)
Glassware: Tulip
Serving Temp: 55°
Availability: Year Round
Purchased@: Shenadoah Hops

Quick Take: This IPA seems to be out of balance. If you like your IPAs with a malty caramel wallop followed by a rippy and earthy thud of hops, seek this one out. I’m sure there will be plenty of people that enjoy what this beer has to offer, but I’m not really one of them.

Episode 9 – Stone – Grapefruit Slam IPA

Episode 9 of Drew’s Brews Reviews is here! The beer review show you never knew you wanted and no one needs. I slam down a beer that you’ve probably already had a few months ago! This is my first ep back after a lengthy illness and taking some time off to develop a Drew’s Brews Reviews Web site, but damn if I’m not ready to get slammed again. This time, instead of hops, it’s Stone’s Grapefruit Slam IPA that crushes my palate. Yeah, it’s another Stone but they seem to release a brand new beer a week and they’re cheap. Anyway, this is part of Stone’s new Stochasticity Project and I look forward to whatever they come up with for the next release.

Episode 8 – Southern Tier – Grand Arbor

Episode 8 of Drew’s Brews Reviews is here! The beer review show you never knew you wanted and no one needs. I take it easy in this episode with an easy drinkin’ Belgian Farmhouse beer from Southern Tier. It’s fermented with maple syrup to give it an earthiness that seemed to elude me when I tasted it. Ah well, I also talk about the label artist Nate Duval, compare this beer in a flute and snifter, and marvel as Goatboy makes a minor appearance! Yup, Goatboy, the Imperial Weizenbock mascot I never knew I wanted.
