Episode 3 – Southern Tier – Pumking vs. Warlock (Part 1)

Episode 3 of Drew’s Brews Reviews is here! The beer review show you never knew you wanted and no one needs. In this one, I’m joined by my friend Ken and we put Southern Tier’s Pumking head-to-head against the newly released Warlock in a battle royale (sans murderous Japanese teens). I’m trying a different format, so this ends up being more a comparison than a review. We do give our opinions on the beers, but the depth is lacking to keep the overall time lean.

Episode 2 – Brooklyn Brewery – Post Road

Episode 2 of Drew’s Brews Reviews is here! The beer review show you never knew you wanted and no one needs. I try the seasonal release of Post Road from Brooklyn Brewery and lay down a little info about colonial pumpkin beers. Tis the season for spiced amber pumpkin beers for only a few more days, so get ’em while you can.

Episode 1 – Stone/10 Barrel/Blue Jacket – Suede

Episode 1 of Drew’s Brews Reviews is here! The beer review show you never knew you wanted and no one needs. I try the October 2013 released imperial porter, Suede, from Stone and friends. Starr Hill – Little Red Roostar (Coffee Creme Stout) Review

photo 2All You Need to Know

Brewery: Starr Hill Brewery
Style: Milk Stout
ABV: 5.8%
Cost: $8.78 (22 oz)
Glassware: Pint, Snifter
Temp: 50°F-55°F
Availability: Limited Release
Purchased @: Shenandoah Hops

Quick Take: Very solid coffee beer that is let down by the thin mouth feel. If you are looking for a near sessionable stout that has some of the best coffee flavor I have had in a beer for a very reasonable price, this is it. It should be noted that I am a coffee lay person with little to no coffee swigging experience.

Allagash – Tiarna Review

photo 1All You Need to Know

Brewery: Allagash Brewing Company
Style: American Wild Ale
ABV: 7.1%
Cost: $15 (12.7 oz)
Glassware: Tulip
Temp: 50°F-55°F
Availability: Brewed Once
Purchased @: Allagash Brewery

Quick Take: This is a balanced wild yeast ale that doesn’t excel in any particular area, but is a tasty sum of its parts. Tiarna is a worthy beer that is priced a little high for what you get (beer/size). Definitely worth a try if you like Allagash wild beers that keep the must/funk to a minimum and you don’t mind paying for the privilege.
