Those that know Capone’s, an unassuming diner on the outskirts of Norristown, know that it is a haven for beer nerds from all over PA. They do big beer events and do them right. Well, the rightest event of the year is upon us and Capone’s has posted the coveted Black Friday list. I highlighted the gems to help you formulate a plan of attack. Going with a group of people and efficiency is the key to getting through a tap list this long. Event starts at 7am and rolls through the day with the second wave of beers in the afternoon at 4:30pm. Specialty Morning Highlights:
Lost Abbey – Merry Taj (DIPA) – No longer brewed and seems pretty rare.
Captain Lawrence – Imperial Smoked Porter – No longer brewed and highly-rated.
Russian River Concencration 2012 – Fantastic sour only made better with age.
Cantillon – Fou Foune – One of the top lambics in the world and Beer Advocate’s #14 overall.
Struise – St. Amatus (Bourbon-Aged) – A well-regarded Quad that’s been bourbon-aged, yum.
Hardywood – Gingerbread Stout – A world class stout that tastes like “Christmas in a glass.”
50/50 – Totality Imp Stout – A stout from 50/50 always makes waves, and this one is hard to come by.
Firestone Walker – ???? – What difference does it make, it’s Firestone.
Specialty Afternoon Highlights:
Firestone Walker – Sucuba 2014 – One of the smoothest barleywines out there and a personal fav.
Russian River – Pliny the Elder – A standard in Philly, but I always have a glass when it’s available.
Bourbon County – 2014 Stout – First chance to have this year’s BCBS as it releases that day.
Goose Island – Sofie Paradisi – The standard Sofie saison aged in wine barrels with grapefruit.
Cantillon – Lou Pepe Kriek – Second highest rated Cantillon lambic behind Fou Fon.
Ramstein – Eisbock 2010 – Syrupy, concentrated alcohol forward style beer and this is one of the best.
Struise – Black Damnation – Retired RIS that is from one of the best RIS brewers out there.
Russian River – Temptation – Oak chardonnay barrel-aged wild ale with brett.
